Communication: a key to scientific progress
Science can only thrive if researchers are able to convey the beauty, importance and potential impact of their work
to their peers and beyond. Yet, scientists receive little training in communication, and often feel unprepared to
communicate with the public, the media, public officers and even with other scientists. In this seminar, I will share
some general thoughts on science communication, drawn from my experience as a writer, editor, press officer and
scientific consultant to policy makers. I will argue that scientists should take communication matters into their own
hands, and I will present a few principles that should guide the effective communication of science.
